Private loans are funded through a lender, and choosing a lender is an important decision – it involves a financial obligation that will be a part of your life for many years to come. Picking a lender can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. We suggest that you first ask someone you trust for a referral and also check out the business where you have a bank account(s). Then, take the time to compare a few different lenders to find the one that is right for you. You may choose any educational loan lender you prefer. Remember to always take advantage of your federal loan options first.
Students who are approved for an Alternative/Private loan must fill out a Private Loan Self-Certification Disclosure. This document, required by the Department of Education, must be completed before the Financial Aid Office may certify a loan request. This document ensures students understand their options for Federal Student Aid, including Federal Direct Loans, before they borrow from an outside lender.
If you have any questions, please contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.
