Speakers
Born in Ashland, KY, David Vaughan feels privileged he grew up as a pastor’s kid, constantly watching with great admiration as his father’s heart for ministry spilled over onto everyone around him. A graduate of Cincinnati Christian University, David devoted his own life to ministry.
After serving churches in Chesapeake, VA and Lexington, KY, David would become Senior Minister at a church named Westwood Cheviot Church of Christ in Cincinnati, OH in 2002. For the next 20 years, he would faithfully serve a turnaround congregation that changed their name to Whitewater Crossing Christian Church. Beginning with an average weekly attendance of about 350, his vision would necessitate relocation and building new facilities. The congregation began to thrive, taking the weekly attendance to over 2300.
David is passionate about helping churches become healthy and more outward focused. He currently coaches leaders and churches through D Vaughan Consulting and also serves as the Program Director for the Healthy Church Initiative for the Christian Church Leadership Network.
David and Donna, his wife of 43 years, reside near Charleston, SC, have two children and three grandchildren. David enjoys a good cup of coffee and will not likely turn down the offer of a golf game!
John Hampton is a native of a small town in Northern Kentucky named Germantown. He is a 1980 graduate of Bracken County High School, a 1984 graduate of Cincinnati Christian University, and a 1987 recipient of Kentucky Christian University’s Master of Ministry. He also completed studies at Asbury Seminary’s Beeson Institute of Advanced Church Leadership in 2002.
For over 42 years, John served as either the solo, senior, or lead pastor at churches in Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, and Florida. In March 2010, John accepted a call to be Lead Pastor at Journey Christian Church in Apopka, FL, just outside Orlando. He served in this role until he stepped aside in January 2023 as part of a planned succession.
John now serves as Pastor Emeritus of Journey Christian Church and as the Assistant Director of the Compelling Preaching Initiative at the Christian Church Leadership Network. He is also the current Chairman of the Board for Florida Church Planters.
John married Melinda (Skaggs) on June 4, 1983. They are the parents of two daughters, Anna Ashie (Nii Ashie) and Rachel Donaldson (Caleb Donaldson), and the proud “Pappy and Mimi” to Hampton, Davies, and Bryant Ashie.
John enjoys playing golf, reading books on how to be a more effective communicator and leader, learning from other great leaders, traveling with Melinda, hanging out with his adult kids and their spouses every chance he gets, spoiling his grandkids and cheering passionately for the University of Kentucky Wildcats!
