On May 5, 2026, the IT department received an email from Instructure, the company behind Canvas, stating that they had experienced a security breach and that some information may have been compromised.
At this time, Instructure is not sure how much data was leaked, but the compromised data appears to mainly involve personal information. At this time, Instructure has found no indication that passwords, dates of birth, government identifiers, or financial information were involved.
Instructure is continuing to monitor and respond to the situation. Canvas remains fully operational at this time.
The IT department is also monitoring the situation and will share any additional information as it becomes available.
What can I do?
Do not access Canvas through any links that have been sent to you, only through your Google account, through your My Central portal, or by bookmarking this direct link.
Please watch for any unusual activity in your email. Be especially aware of phishing emails that may ask for passwords or other sensitive information.
