HANDS-ON ARCHAEOLOGY FOR CREDIT

Central Christian College of the Bible began taking students to Israel for an archaeological excavation in the summer of 2019. Under the supervision of Professor Walt Harper, CCCB teamed up with other institutions from around the country under the direction of James. R. Strange of Samford University for their archaeological expedition. Central students spend nearly a month digging in the ancient village of Shikhin, located just 6 miles from where Jesus grew up in Nazareth.

Students learn hands-on archaeology in this lower-Galilee field school while earning college credit. When not at the dig site, students tour the Bible lands, visiting sites important to Biblical history and the excavations at Shikhin.

SHIKHIN EXCAVATION PROJECT

Shikhin is located off the Beit Netofa Valley of Lower Galilee. The historian Josephus and other Rabbinic literature connect Shikhin to Sepphoris, the city just one mile away that Herod the Great's son, Antipas, made his capital city in Galilee. Shikhin gained a reputation for its pottery consisting of jugs, jars, bowls, cooking pots, and oil lamps. Along with pottery manufacturing, material evidence suggests that this village was a Jewish village filled with people who were dedicated to the law and attending their synagogue. The village grew in the late fifth to early fourth century BC and was eventually abandoned during the fourth century AD.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL SCHOLARSHIP

This archaeological experience in Israel is only made possible by people like you. Students each raise most of their nearly $6,000 cost to participate, but the scholarship is a blessing that Central wants to continue. The current archaeological scholarship fund balance can produce two annual $2,000 scholarships.

There are several ways to give creatively that can reduce taxes and maximize deductions.
