General Description

The Christian Counseling Professor and Program Director serves the mission of Central Bible University by providing curricular and instructional leadership in the content areas of undergraduate psychology and counseling. This dual role combines faculty responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, and service with administrative oversight for the Christian Counseling program, including assessment, recruitment, and faculty collaboration.

Faculty & Instructional Responsibilities

These duties represent the core expectations for the instructional side of the role.

Teaching and Pedagogy

  • Teach an assigned number of courses as determined by the Vice President of Academics.
  • Demonstrate excellent teaching skills and pursue ongoing professional development.
  • Maintain the capability to teach in any modality used by the institution, including residential and online formats.
  • Consult with the Vice President of Academics to offer creative or experiential learning opportunities.

Residential Faculty Expectations

  • Maintain an on campus presence to enhance community and collaborate with colleagues, including posted weekly office hours.
  • Attend chapel, graduation, faculty meetings, retreats, and in service days.
  • Serve on college committees as assigned and participate in occasional campus life activities.
  • Comply with all employee and faculty handbook policies, including FERPA and other federal and state regulations.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, professional conferences, and private counseling, as approved by the Vice President of Academics, to remain current in the field.

Faculty rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor will be assigned by the Vice President of Academics based on eligibility criteria for rank.

Program Director & Administrative Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are in addition to the faculty requirements above and focus on the leadership of the Christian Counseling major.

Curricular Leadership and Assessment

  • Lead the development, maintenance, and submission of degree and course proposals according to academic policies.
  • Lead scheduled program reviews and conduct Program Learning Outcome assessments under the guidance of the Director of Academic Assessment.
  • Collaborate with department faculty on course level outcome and program level outcome mapping and curricular rotations.
  • Assist the Registrar and Academics Office with annual academic catalog revisions and program specific course sequencing.

Administrative and Departmental Oversight

  • Participate in Academic Council meetings.
  • Assist the Vice President of Academics with hiring, evaluating, and promoting faculty within the counseling program.
  • Coordinate with the Academics Office to schedule course rotations and assign teaching responsibilities.

Experiential Learning Coordination

  • Cultivate partnerships and credentialing for quality service learning and internship opportunities.
  • Maintain all internship and practicum documentation within the Canvas LMS.
  • Coordinate responsibilities among program instructors and monitor experiential courses, including SMEs, internships, and capstones.

Advising and Mentorship of Christian Counseling Students

  • Register students, maintain accurate progress sheets, and follow all Registrar policies.
  • Intentionally build relationships with students to help them discern career options and appropriate learning pathways.
  • Address student issues efficiently while maintaining professional, biblical, and ethical boundaries.

Program Promotion and Recruitment

  • Collaborate with the Admissions and Marketing departments to create accurate and inspirational promotional materials and website content.
  • Assist in recruiting prospective students and speak at special events both on and off campus.

Reporting Structure

  • Primary Supervisor: Vice President of Academics
  • Collaboration: Works closely with the Registrar's Office, other faculty, Admissions, Marketing, and the Director of Academic Assessment.
