General Description
The Accounting Manager provides hands-on financial leadership for Central Bible University. This role oversees accounting operations, supervises key staff, and ensures financial stewardship in support of the college’s Christ-centered mission. The university welcomes candidates with accounting experience from nonprofit, educational, church, healthcare, or corporate environments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
These duties represent the core expectations for the Accounting Manager role.
Financial Operations & Oversight
- Supervise and manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable specialists.
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including cash management, deposits, disbursements, and general ledger activity.
- Ensure accurate and timely posting of transactions and maintenance of accounting records.
- Maintain and enforce strong internal controls and financial policies.
- Maintain fixed asset inventory and depreciation schedules.
Reconciliations & Reporting
- Perform and/or review daily, monthly, and annual reconciliations, including bank and investment accounts, general ledger accounts, tuition receivables and student accounts, and restricted and designated funds.
- Lead the monthly and year-end close processes.
- Assist in preparing reports for senior leadership and the Board of Trustees.
- Support annual audit preparation.
Nonprofit & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
- Assist with Form 990 preparation and related nonprofit filings.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, including financial aid reporting as applicable.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide training, supervision, and performance management for A/P and A/R staff.
- Collaborate with Admissions, Financial Aid, Development, and academic departments to ensure accurate financial processes.
- Support budget preparation and financial forecasting in partnership with leadership.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience.
- Demonstrated experience supervising accounting staff.
- Knowledge of nonprofit financial reporting standards.
- Experience with accounting software systems and advanced proficiency in Excel.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred
- Experience in Christian higher education, ministry-based organizations, or nonprofits.
- Familiarity with student information systems and tuition receivable management.
Work Environment & Schedule
This is a hybrid position requiring physical presence at one of the institution’s locations in Moberly, Missouri; St. Louis, Missouri; or Florence, Kentucky at least two days per week. Occasional travel between campuses may be required. The remaining work may be performed remotely as approved. Fully remote work will be considered for strongly qualified candidates.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods and work at a computer.
- Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to travel periodically between campus locations.
