Group Life
Honors Program students participate in shared experiences to build knowledge.

Field trips are scheduled each semester to provide exposure to an enriching cultural or academic experience.

Colloquia are held monthly where research is presented by honors students and professors.

View a sample colloquium here.

Honors Program students are provided double-occupancy rooms with roommates who are also in the Honors Program.

Mentoring
Honors students meet regularly with professors to build collegiality. Attendance at colloquia and joint research projects provide intellectual stimulation. The Director provides personal oversight and opportunities for advice and feedback.

Course of Study
The program gives students in all majors the opportunity to pursue in-depth study. This work takes three forms: parallel honors classes, replacement seminars, and a research project.

Honors classes are geared toward honors program students or non-honors students with a cumulative 3.30 GPA. Each semester, qualified students may enroll in one course appropriate for the grade level.

Supplemental seminars are designed for honors students only. Honors program students will complete a sequence of supplemental work in seminar form by taking two of three seminars (New Testament, Old Testament, and Theology/Philosophy).

A Research Project explores a biblical or theological topic under the supervision of the honors program director. To complete the project, the student will present the research at an honors program colloquium.

Qualifications
Freshmen will qualify for the program if they have graduated in the top fifteen percent of their high school class and meet the following qualifications:

* Earn a 3.70 GPA or at least a 25 composite score on the ACT or an 1100 on the SAT.

* Submit a recommendation from a high school teacher, in addition to regular recommendation requirements for admission to Central.

Sophmores may qualify who have earned a 3.50 during their first year at Central, completed 30 hours of credit, and one honors program course.

A 3.50 GPA and one honors course completed per year are required to remain eligible for the Honors program.

Testimony
"In my time at Central, I have been fortunate enough to be able to participate in many of the opportunities that will be afforded to those who choose to enroll in the honors program. As I come to the end of my time at Central and look ahead toward graduate studies, I know that because of those opportunities I will be more than adequately prepared for the academic demands of seminary. If you choose to take on the challenge and adventure of an honors education at Central, you too will be so equipped."
